Resource Map

Austin Connects recently received a grant from the One Star Foundation to build a fully integrated, searchable, dynamic community technology services map and database on our website.

One of the goals of Austin Connects is to identify community priorities so that they may be addressed. The first objective of the mapping project is to create a tool that will provide data vital to identifying community needs. The second is to provide a resource that will help in coordinating social services and service delivery in the community technology sector.

The resource map is currently in the planning stages. The vision is to create a searchable database that will display results in list format and on a dynamically generated map tool such as google maps. The database will be searchable by factors important to community technology clients such as location, accessibility options, cost, language, and target audience.

If for example a social service provider has an elderly client wishing to learn how to use a computer they could search for programs targeting seniors. The results will display as a list and on a map showing the locations of all community technology programs serving the elderly. By the same token someone could search for all programs in the 78744 regardless of the populations served or types of services offered.

Look for more information soon!
